The mandatory equipment list is based on several important factors:
- Competitor safety and wellbeing.
- It is winter. Temperatures at the start of the 50km course could be in the vicinity of 4 degrees with wind chill making the apparent temperature much lower.
- The weather patterns within the run site can be very changeable due to the mountainous terrain and elevation above sea level.
There is also a Recommended equipment list at the bottom of the table.
